Is Your Content Marketing Like A Confusing Riddle?

I have a simple, but important, reminder for you today.

But first, I have a riddle I want you to solve.

Can you translate the following line?
(I’ll give you a hint. You have probably said these words in another form before.)

Scintillate, scintillate, globule vivific, Fain would I fathom thy nature specific. Loftily poised in the ether capacious, Strongly resembling a gem carbonaceous.

Hey now. Don’t peek!

See if you can answer it before you read the translation.

Do you give up? Ok.

Translation:

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, How I wonder what you are, Up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky.

Now that sounds much more familiar, doesn’t it? 🙂

 

Content marketing is communication and communication must be clear if it’s going to achieve its purpose.

William Penn once said it like this, “Speak properly, and in as few words as you can, but always plainly; for the end of speech is not ostentation, but to be understood.”

You must make sure that you are communicating using the words and the terms that your audience understands.

Otherwise you will sound more like the first version of “Twinkle, Twinkle”, than like the second version.

Not only that, but you must communicate in a way that isn’t just clear, but is also interesting and entertaining.

 

I could have just written one sentence for this post: Don’t forget to write clearly or no one will understand, or bother with, your message.

But that would have been boring.

That wouldn’t have gotten your attention.

Instead, I started with that confusing riddle.

Too many content marketers create content that is either not clear or not interesting.

And content that is not clear or not interesting is a waste of everyone’s time.

That type of content marketing is a riddle that no one wants to solve.
