I haven’t posted here in 2 weeks. Sorry. I’ve just had too many things going on.
I’ve been busy writing some guest posts for some other sites and locking in details on some upcoming workshops I’ll be teaching – all while juggling 3-4 other major projects.
Anyway, today I just have a short post for you, but it’s an important one.
Ready? Here we go…
The Copycat Lifestyle
We spend much of our lives being copycats.
We copy how other people dress. We copy how they speak, how they act.
We watch the TV shows that other people tell us are popular. We listen to “Pop Music.” Speaking of music, even the niche of people in the music industry who are supposed to value individuality (Punk Rock), copy each other.
There is one major problem with living this way: if you’re doing exactly the same things as everyone else, you can’t expect your results to be any different.
As Mark Twain once said, “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
Being A Copycat Business Owner Is Fatal
Living the “copycat lifestyle” might be a popular way to live, but it’s also a stupid way to live.
This is especially true for business owners.
If you copy what everyone else in your industry is doing, then expect to get similar (or worse) results.
Why worse results?
Because what you’re doing and offering already exists. You’re just “another ________” business. Why should anyone chose your business over the others?
If you want to experience different results, then you MUST be willing to be different.
You must break the norms. You must be willing to stand out.
The Risk Of Being Different
Now when you do this you, of course, take the risk of failing.
But you have no other choice.
It’s only by being different that you have the opportunity to succeed at levels that are beyond the norm in your industry.
Having a difference makes a difference.
Having a difference is the only source of different results.
Think of any successful person. Think of any successful business.
Did they achieve success because they copied the competition?
Of course not.
They achieved it because they were willing to be and do things differently.
It’s the difference that made the difference.
A Surprising Example
If you want an example, then check out this post I just wrote for my site BayBusinessHelp.com.
It’s called, “The 7 Lessons That Enable You To Offer The Highest Prices Without A Single Complaint.”
Have you ever been afraid to offer higher prices? I have! Learn these 7 lessons from a surprising source and you’ll be able to raise them confidently.
I’ll give you a hint.
The surprising source of these lessons understands the importance of being different.
Now go and do the same… or maybe I should say, “Now go and do the difference.”
